Hi, I’m Tamara. Welcome to The Workout Mama, a Christian homeschool mom blog where I share the real, everyday journey of being a wife, mom, homeschool teacher, and follower of Christ. This is my creative space to write about what’s growing me, challenging me, and shaping me—physically, spiritually, and emotionally.
I live in sunny Arizona with my husband of nearly 18 years, our four amazing kids, and a native desert tortoise who happily calls our backyard home. Our house is often loud, a little wild, and full of laughter and love.
What You’ll Find Here
Each day, you’ll find me working out everything from motherhood and marriage to faith and healthy living—one day, one prayer, and one workout at a time.
Faith in Jesus Christ is the foundation of my life and this space. As a Christian homeschool mom blog, The Workout Mama focuses on motherhood, marriage, homeschooling, health, and everyday life—but all of it flows from my desire to honor God and point others to Him.
What I Believe
- There is one God existing eternally in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Matt. 28:19)
- Jesus is fully man and fully God. He was born of the virgin Mary, proven Himself to be the Son of God by His deeds, fulfillment of prophecy, crucifixion and bodily resurrection. (Luke 1:42; 1 Cor. 15)
- The Bible is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God. It is always true, all the time. (2 Peter. 1:21; 2 Tim. 3:16)
- Heaven and hell are both literal places. (Matt. 8:12; Rev. 20:14-15; 21:8)
- Salvation from the punishment of hell is a gift of God’s grace to those who put their faith in Jesus. (John 3:16; Eph. 2:8-9)
My Health Journey
Being healthy is a gift! If you have never struggled with your health be grateful and if you have hopefully you will find some encouragement on this blog. When I was 23 I was diagnosed with a neurological disorder called Guillain-Barré Syndrome that left me paralyzed from the neck down.
If you are interested in my diagnosis and recovery I suggest reading the following posts:

- Part 6: Recovery.
Since my illness I am grateful each day for what my body is capable of doing. Several years after I had recovered I was able to challenge my body in ways I never would have dreamed of doing before my illness. In 2011 I completed my first half marathon with a time of 2:03:53, and my first Triathlon and came in 2nd in my age group. Since recovering I obtained several different fitness certifications including NASM Personal Trainer, registered yoga teacher with 200 + hours of training, NASM Fitness Nutrition Specialist, TRX Suspension Training Level 1, Precision Nutrition Level 1 Coach. I am also an alumni ambassador for lululemon athletica.
Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by! I hope you find encouragement on these pages but more importantly I hope you discover Jesus and see what a life can look like when it is transformed by God’s grace and goodness. God is good, all the time.

Every day, I’m learning to walk a little closer with Jesus, to love my family well, and to give them the best of me—not because I have it all together, but because His grace meets me right where I am. If you’re trying to do the same, I’m so glad you’re here.
