Why We Switched from Saxon Math to Shormann Math (And What Happened Next)
For years, Saxon Math was a steady and trusted part of our homeschool. It was consistent, thorough, and it worked. But as my oldest moved into the upper grades, something began to shift. Math lessons that once felt manageable started stretching longer and longer, turning into a daily struggle to fit everything else in. I…

Resources
This is a current list of books and media that we have used and would recommend. Any of these resources would be excellent ways to create family engagement and discussions around God’s Word and to incorporate into a family devotion.
Preschool Books
- The Jesus Story Book Bible: The Jesus Storybook Bible tells the Story beneath all the stories in the Bible. At the center of the Story is a baby, the child upon whom everything will depend. Every story whispers his name.
- The Biggest Story: How the Snake Crusher Brings Us Back to the Garden: The illustrations alone make this book worth the purchase. This book connects the dots from the garden of Eden to Christ’s death on the cross to the new heaven and new earth.
- The Garden, the Curtain, and the Cross: Retelling the Easter story through a Bible overview, children will discover that ‘because of our sin, we can’t go in’ but because of Jesus’ victory on the cross, an even better garden awaits us. This is a sweet book, with great pictures, and is a must read for both parents and kids.
Preschool Media
- Seeds Family Worship: Seeds has many albums that will help your entire family memorize scripture through song! This is a great resource!
- Sovereign Grace Music: Another great resource to speak God’s Word into your family via song. We like the albums Walking in the Wise, The Ology, and To Be Like Jesus.
- Boz the Bear: This is a great show that you will want your kids to watch over and over again! Boz is a lovable green bear who lives in a treehouse in the backyard of twins Drew and Gracie and helps to teach God’s Truth into their lives.
- The Gospel Story Bible: The easy-to-read storybook introduces your family to many captivating people, places, and events from the Bible’s Old and New Testaments, showing how each one ultimately points to Jesus.
Grade School Media
- Adventures in Odyssey: I grew up listening to this radio drama for kids and memorized so much scripture from this show. It is a great resource and I can’t wait until our kids are old enough to listen.
- Seeds Family Worship: Seeds has many albums that will help your entire family memorize scripture through song! This is a great resource!
